he war between the Netherlands and England, which has mostly been fought at sea so far, has now reached land as well. The war has mainly been about seizing each other’s colonies, but now even Terschelling has been attacked.

Last night, at least 150 ships were burned near the village of West-Terschelling. These were mainly merchant ships, but also warships and ships of the Dutch West India Company (WIC). But the violence didn’t stop there: the village itself was invaded as well. The English set the village on fire, and almost the entire village was destroyed. In this dreadful night, nearly 2000 people were reportedly killed.

What’s even worse is that it is rumored that the English were led by exiled Dutch Captain Van Heemskerck.

Our thoughts are with the many casualties in this conflict that is fought over lands far away.
